Promo Products Create Revenue Stream For Brands

Promo Products Create Revenue Stream For Brands
Searching for new ways to bring in revenues as their traditional lines of business have been impacted this year, corporations are increasingly looking to branded ad specialty items as a new revenue channel. While hats and t-shirts with their own logos on them will never become their primary business, these companies appreciate the extra dollars as well as the extra advertising impressions they get from selling these items.

This month, PepsiCo launched www.ShopPepsi.com. Here consumers can purchase shoulder bags, t-shirts, hoodies and belts as well as ice cream scoopers, clocks and canister sets – all emblazoned with the Pepsi logo. The products feature an array of designs ranging from contemporary to vintage looks. Through the holidays, consumers could even receive a 20% discount and free scarf with purchase.

At the same time, Coca-Cola announced its merchandise plans for the 2010 holiday season. The number-one cola company struck a multi-year licensing agreement with Paramount to produce co-branded Coca-Cola and “It’s a Wonderful Life” merchandise. Coke is featured prominently in scenes shot in Gower Dugs. The film will celebrate its 65th anniversary with branded apparel, drinkware and other items.

Of course, it’s not just the largest brand names that are turning to logoed items as a new revenue stream. The Crack Team, which is a franchise of concrete repair specialists, has also embraced such items. Its mascot, “Mr. Happy Crack” adorns thongs, t-shirts, toilet paper, golf balls, temporary tattoos and even baby onesies.
“It’s a fun part of our business,” says Crack Team CEO Bob Kodner. “At some point we’ll put more emphasis on growing it, but for now it’s a very nice compliment to our repair business.”

Although the business is based in St. Louis, orders arrive from coast-to-coast and occasionally, even, internationally. “This morning we received an order from the United Kingdom,” says Kodner. “I’m always pleasantly surprised by overseas customers and how they find us.”

Promotional Products Prove Advertising Medium of Choice

Monday, December 7th, 2009

IRVING, Texas—In a 2009 study of the advertising purchasing habits of end buyers, respondents ranked promotional products as their top advertising choice over mainstream media, including television, newspaper and internet. The study, a survey of more than 1,000 buyers, was conducted by researchers at Louisiana State University and Glenrich Business Studies for Promotional Products Association International (PPAI).

Participants were asked to evaluate promotional products, television, direct mail, newspapers, consumer magazines, trade publications, internet and social media with regard to eight attributes associated with marketers’ needs. Of those, promotional products outranked the other media in five categories: Ability to achieve long-term memorability at the cost of paying only for a single exposure; flexibility to fit the cost of the medium to available budget; ability to bond audience to advertiser so as to promote repeat business; audience friendly (i.e., not so likely to offend or be regarded as a nuisance); and ability to generate traffic (e.g., stores, tradeshows, events). Today I received a motivational email from my client that I’d love to pass on to you. After I read this, I printed it out and put it on my office wall. In any business and in any position, it’s tough to see the progress you have made without taking a step back.

Enjoy!

This past weekend I was working on a holiday scrapbook – it’s a tradition I started with my husband years ago. Now that we have two kids, a son who’ll be 5 this month and our daughter will be 3 in January, it’s become quite a project to compile.

I picked up a photo of my kids from last Christmas and I couldn’t believe my eyes.  In our day to day life, I often don’t see the little changes in their growth and development…but WOW the picture made me both proud and a little teary-eyed.

How does this relate to your… business?  Great question.

I have a quote on my bulletin board in my office.  I read it all the time.  It helps me stay focused and reminds me – like that photo did – that even though we don’t often see big changes overnight – growth and development is definitely happening.

Here’s the quote:

‘Everything looks like a failure in the middle.  You can’t bake a cake without getting the kitchen messy.  Halfway through surgery it looks like there’s been a murder in the operating room.  If you send a rocket toward the moon, about ninety percent of the time it’s off course – it ‘fails’ its way to the moon by continually making mistakes and correcting them.’ – P.Pritchett

Tip of the week: Measure progress in all areas of your business by taking regular ’snapshots’ because on a daily basis it’s not always easy to see the growth and development happening.”

A big thanks to Suzanne Blake Gerety, who owns the successful DanceStudioOwner.com and helps studio owners to market their companies effectively.
